Model guide · Polaroids

Model digitals: current, natural, unretouched.

Digitals, also called polaroids or polas, are simple, current photos. They show what you look like now, without elaborate styling, filters or retouching. This gives an agency a clearer first impression than heavily staged portfolio images.

For an initial application to Sun and Moon Talents, 2–4 current photos are enough, ideally a clear portrait and a full-body photo. You do not need a professional shoot.

In brief

What makes good model digitals?

Current, sharp and unaltered photos against a calm background. Soft daylight, simple clothing and a straight camera angle help show your face and silhouette clearly. The exact shot list can vary by agency, project and type of modelling work.

For a first application to SaMT, bikini, underwear or revealing photos are not needed. Do not send them unsolicited. If you are under 18, involve a parent or guardian in applications and shoot arrangements.

The photos

Which photos should you prepare?

Start with a few clear images. If an agency needs extra angles or a particular format, it can ask for them specifically.

Front-facing portrait

Show your face looking straight at the camera with a neutral expression. A second portrait with a natural smile can show another side of your expression.

Three-quarter or profile

A slightly turned or side view helps show your face shape and natural expression from another angle.

Full-body photo

A front view, and a side view if requested, show posture and proportions in simple clothing. Stand comfortably and upright without forcing a pose.

A 45-degree view, back view or additional pose is not a universal requirement. Follow the agency’s specific request.

Clothing

What should I wear for digitals?

Choose simple, well-fitting clothes without large logos or bold patterns. A plain T-shirt or tank top with jeans or simple trousers is usually enough for a first impression. Wear something comfortable that shows your current appearance clearly.

An agency may request additional clothing or a particular silhouette for a specific casting. That is a brief for that purpose, not a universal rule for all models.

Different briefs

Are there separate rules for women and men?

The basics are the same for everyone: current, natural photos and a clear view of your face and clothing. Some agencies suggest a simple tank top and fitted trousers for women, or a plain T-shirt and straight-cut trousers for men. These are examples, not fixed gender rules.

High heels, swimwear, underwear or bare-torso photos are not automatically required for a general application. Check any special request directly with the agency and decide what you are comfortable wearing.

Light, background and camera

How to take digitals at home.

A smartphone is enough. The important things are sharp focus, clear lighting and a natural perspective without image manipulation.

Natural light

Stand near a window in bright, indirect daylight. Avoid harsh midday sun, flash and coloured artificial light if they create strong shadows or change skin tones.

Simple background

A plain, light or neutral wall keeps attention on you. A little distance from the wall can reduce distracting shadows.

Straight camera angle

Use the phone’s rear camera and a timer or ask someone to help. For portraits, place the camera around eye level; for full-body photos, around hip or waist height. Avoid extreme high or low angles and wide-angle distortion.

No filters or retouching

Turn off beauty filters, portrait softening and artificial blur. Do not smooth your skin or alter your body shape or colours. The photo should give an honest impression of your appearance now.

Before you take photos

A simple preparation is enough.

  • Choose clean, simple clothes that fit well.
  • Clear distracting objects from the frame and check the background.
  • Avoid heavy make-up, elaborate hair styling and conspicuous jewellery.
  • Show how you currently look. Do not change your appearance just for the camera.
  • Ask someone you trust to help if you feel uncomfortable using a timer.
Measurements and timing

Keep your details current.

If an agency asks for measurements, take them carefully and note when you measured. Do not guess. New digitals can help when your appearance has visibly changed or your existing images are no longer current.

There is no single update schedule that applies to every agency. The key is that your photos and details reflect how you look today.

Optional video

When do I need a video slate?

An agency may ask for a short, unedited video so a production can get a better sense of your movement, voice or presence. It complements photos; it is not automatically part of every application.

If requested, keep your phone steady, record in a quiet room and follow the requested length and shot list. Share only the details needed for the application.

Your safety matters

Agree on special photos in advance.

If a request includes swimwear, underwear or other revealing images, ask why they are needed, who will receive them, how they will be stored and how they may be used. You can ask questions and decline a photo. Do not send intimate images to unknown contacts or through unverified links.

If you are under 18, involve a parent or guardian. Revealing or intimate images of minors do not belong in a model application.

Frequently asked questions

Model digitals: quick answers.

What is the difference between digitals and portfolio photos?

Digitals are simple, current reference photos without elaborate styling. Portfolio photos usually show a finished concept with lighting, styling, make-up or image editing.

How many photos do I need for a first SaMT application?

For an initial impression, we ask for 2–4 current photos, ideally a portrait and a full-body photo. If we need more, we will ask for it specifically.

Do I have to be completely make-up free?

A natural, minimally styled look is helpful for digitals. Heavy make-up, filters and beauty retouching can hide details. Follow a specific agency request if you have received one.

Do I have to wear high heels, a bikini or underwear?

No, not as a general rule. Regular current photos are enough for a first SaMT application. Special clothes or extra photos should be requested, explained and discussed with you in advance.

Do I need a professional camera or studio?

No. A current smartphone, good daylight, a simple background and a straight camera angle are often enough for a first impression.

Do good digitals guarantee that I will be accepted?

Clear, current photos make assessment easier, but they do not guarantee agency representation, castings or jobs. Decisions depend on the profile and the needs of each project.
